What Are the Most Common Reasons for Patient Dissatisfaction?
The number one reason for being dissatisfied after mastopexy is having a mismatch between what you thought your breasts were going to look like, and what your plastic surgeon mentioned that they will look like during consultation. Unfortunately, many women are so excited about proceeding with surgery that they fail to thoroughly analyze all the points that their plastic surgeon makes during consultation.
Mastopexy is a very challenging procedure which its outcome to some extent depends on factors that are out of your surgeon's hands. These factors include your age, skin and breast tissue elasticity, and history of previous surgery and weight loss. During your consultation you should ask about the different types of mastopexies and their pros and cons; so that you can make an informed decision about which type of lift would be most appropriate for you. You should come to a clear understanding of what are the drawbacks or shortcomings of each type of breast lift. Can you live with such a consequence? Also be aware that a mastopexy may not be able to lift your breasts to the degree that you want.
The second most common reason for dissatisfaction is that women feel that once they get breast implants they should instantaneously be ready for the swim suit, with the “Perfect New Breasts”! Obviously, it takes weeks to months for implants to settle, swelling to subside, and breast tissue to accommodate the new implant. Therefore, be patient.
The third most common reason for dissatisfaction after mastopexy is having an unreasonable expectation that a breast lift will last for ever or that you might not need any further revision surgery afterwards. Of all the cosmetic surgery procedures performed Mastopexy is maybe the one with the highest rate of revision surgery.
